Fast tiefschwarze Farbe mit roten Reflexen, komplexe Nase mit einer Flut von Aromen nach Beerenfrüchten und typisch reif getrockneter Banane; voller, fruchtiger Gaumen mit harmonisch eingebundenem Tannin. Eleganter, kultivierter und weicher Pinotage mit schönem Alterungspotenzial. Spezialabfüllung in Großflasche, limitiert.
The Laibach Pinotage is grown in 2 blocks. Both are about 8 years old un – irrigated, low yielding bush vines. The one block is higher (about 320 meters above sea level) with a very steep slope and always produce more elegant minty, eucalyptus flavours. The other block gives classic banana, mulberry and lavender flavours with more robust tannin.
The grapes are picked usually around the first week in February. The grapes are destemmed, hand sorted (modern vibrating tables) and gently crushed. Fermentation is done in 100% open 4 ton tanks. Tannins and colour is extracted with manual punch downs and fermentation temperatures will reach 31 degrees. Fermentations will last ± 5 – 7 days and the Malolactic fermentation will be done in French oak barrels. This wine was bottled in July 2005 after 14 months in 80% new French oak barrels.
Bright red, youthful Pinotage colour. Complex nose showing lovely minty, black cherry and dried prune whiffs. Hints of fresh leather and lavender tones leads into a medium weight palate. Good ripeness with generous tannin and well balanced classy oak. Still showing a lot of primary aromas which will develop into a complex array of classy flavours with bottle maturation. Already drinkable, but will only get better with time. Drink 4 – 6 years after vintage. |
